Overstock.com - Main Street

Angela Ramirez, is the Director of Worldstock, Overstock.com's socially responsible marketplace for handcrafted products created by artisans from developing nations and from underprivileged artisans in the United States. In 2004 she joined Worldstock as a buyer's assistant. In 2006 she became the director and led the department to its best year in 2007. Recently she started Directing as well Main Street, a new division of Overstock.com, focused to help small business around the country.

Angela works very closely with the artisans to help them meet their economic goals. About every three months she travels from her home in Salt Lake City, where Overstock.com is headquartered, to remote and exotic locations around the world.

Angela's favorite thing about her job is witnessing the improvements artisans have made to their lives with the sale of their products through Worldstock. A case in point is a group of artisans in the village of San Jacinto in her native country of Colombia, where generations of artisans have passed the technique of hammock making to their daughters. Sadly, guerilla warfare drove most tourism in that area away and made it extremely difficult to farm there. The sales of the hammocks on Worldstock contribute directly to the improvement of the lives of 120 women and the three to four dependents that each of them have. With the money collected through Worldstock, the women have been able to take water to the village and send their children to school.

Other countries that Angela has visited recently through her work and seen positive change include Peru, India, Morocco and Mexico.
